Ever wondered how to tell an
android phone from a windows phone? If yes, wonder no more because after
reading this article, the difference between android and windows phone will be
crystal clear to you.
To start with, android and
windows phones are
great mobile operating system (OS) that run on smartphones
and tablets. Both android and windows phones are filled with great enticing
features, so if you are confused in making a decision as to which phone you would
go for, then read on because I’ll explain the difference android and windows
phones under these major categories:
I-
Operating system (OS)
II-
User interface (UI)
III-
Apps
IV-
Security
V-
Handsets
I.
OPERATING
SYSTEM (OS): as mentioned in a similar thread, (reasons why you should buy an android phone instead of an IPhone)
android is an open source platform which means that the operating system (OS)
is readily available for modifications by their various manufacturers (e.g.
Samsung, LG, HTC etc.) to suit their own taste and style of phones and
operation.
on the other
hand, Microsoft Windows phones is closed-source, meaning that only the owner
(Microsoft) can alter the operating system programming code, while other
developers don’t have direct access to this.
II.
USER
INTERFACE (UI): The user interface is no doubt another difference
between android and windows phones, even though they both depend on touchscreen
interactions, android jelly bean provides an interface where you can have
access to multiple home screens that can be customized fully with various
shortcuts and widgets.
Windows phones
are quite different in this approach. Windows phone 8 has just a single home
screen filled with live tiles, which functions the same way widgets do on
android operating system, giving you quick access to an app.
Both the windows
and android phones are fun to use, but you might find them difficult especially
when completely new to them.
III.
APPS:
when it comes to apps, what’s on your mind? Well, an android phone has the
upper hand in this case and defeats windows phones with a clear margin. Android
phones have over one million apps compared to windows phones which have 160,000
apps. However, Microsoft is stepping up the game by adding about 25,000 apps
every few weeks. Interesting, isn’t it? Who knows, the story might change in
the near future in favour of windows, but not until android stops producing
apps.
IV.
SECURITY:
Security has grown to be a concerning issue globally especially at this great
age of technology. Everyone wants his/her privacy to be respected. We have heard
of reports about phones and other digital stuffs being hacked into, making
phone manufacturers stepping up their game, providing tight security more than
ever.
In light to
this, Windows phones are probably more secured than android phones. Why?
Because unlike android phones, windows doesn’t allow installation of apps which
sources are unknown, only apps available in windows app store are allowed. This
is the reason people install more cracked software on android phones which
carries a lot of viruses or malware. This however can be prevented simply by
refusing to install apps from unknown source.
V.
HANDSET:
Yes, android scores higher than the windows phones because there are
huge number of android phones offered by multiple device manufacturers such as
Motorola, HTC, Huawei, Samsung, LG and the likes.
Windows on the
other hand has been offered only by a few manufacturers with limited handsets.
Android and
windows phones are both high quality handsets, but if you are looking for one
with many manufacturers, then go for android phones.
CONCLUSION
From the above criteria,
you will agree with me that android phones gives room for more customization
and free apps while windows phones is rich in security. So which would you go
for?
